Yes, they are actual diamonds. Two, very small (less than 1 carat together) brilliant-cut diamonds. And before anyone suggests it, I haven't stolen them from university. I bought a cheap ring with diamonds in it and cut them out (massacring the ring) with a pair of hefty metal snips.

Well, "cheap," but I seriously doubt I would be able to afford even a cheap diamond ring.
I love this, by the way. The water is perfectly depicted, as is(are) the diamond(s).
