Good news and bad news
So where should I start? The good or the bad?
Lets start with the good news:
I've had much of my faith in dA's deviants restored by the lovely comments and support I received in my last journal. I'm in a much better mood now.
I went to visit the petrological company in my neck of the woods with a view to getting a job or experience, and things may be looking up. It was a heavily informal chat, and I stuck out like a sore thumb wearing a suit when everyone working there was in jeans and t-shirts. I have another more formal interview with the company soon, so we shall see how it goes. In my heart I can't wait, just in case I get it.

And now for the bad news:
Aside from me feeling bad about jobs, my brother is having a whole world of crap land on him from a great height.
For those that don't know about him- many of you I imagine- my brother also has a geology degree but works for a financial company, which is really feeling the credit crunch, so ALL leave and vacations have been stopped for ALL employees. That doesn't sound so bad, but when you couple it with the asshole of a flatmate that has disappeared, leaving most of his belongings at the flat, after not paying his rent for about 3-4 months, therefore meaning my brother is going to be evicted because of some tw*t that he's trusted for years. The guy appears to have been lying to everyone about everything and has not been seen at the flat for a couple of weeks. To add insult to injury, my brother might be liable to pay a few thousand pounds to the landlady for damages and lack of rent from this guy- We're talking London rental prices here. Also, it seems the guy has been entering my brothers room and rifling through coat pockets and bags in search of money.
My brother will be moving in with an old uni friend in about 10 days time, and I severely hope nothing else happens to him again. After all, this isn't the first time he's had problems with house sharing.

Disturbing
Anyone here living in the UK? Well, from what I heard on the radio this lunchtime, the government is considering bringing in a law that will allow local councils to legally look at the emails, text messages, phone calls and internet logs of ALL UK RESIDENTS in aid to stop terrorism and crime.
Now, what is wrong with this picture? Aside from the fact that this government couldn't keep important and confidential NHS and benefits information secure, what chance does it have of keeping the phone, email, text and internet records of some 60 million people safe from criminals?
This could be ripped open on so many levels by either council workers without morals, hacking criminals or just people that are generally bastards when it comes to confidential things. And before anyone says well, if you're doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide let me assure you, I'll be cramming that talk back up you ass where it came from. Everyone is entitled to their privacy whether they are breaking the law or not, and if this whole thing is meant to stop terrorists, won't they use some sort of code rather than the obvious "we've planted the bomb on such and such a street"? Wow- who'd have thunk it?
I hope other people will join me in saying that this is a monumentally stupid and obscene idea, as well as the fact that 60 million people's private lives will be delved into on a Nazi Germany slash 1984-esque scale. And if you've not read or seen 1984, it really is terrifying.
